AANA President Discusses the Future of Nurse Anesthesiology
Becker’s ASC Review
In a recent interview with Becker’s ASC Review, newly appointed American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology (AANA) President Tracy Young, MSNA, CRNA, outlined some of the most important issues facing CRNAs and the nurse anesthesiology profession today.
Young highlighted workforce challenges and patient access to care, particularly in rural and underserved communities, as key priorities. He also discussed ongoing efforts to advance full practice authority for CRNAs — an important issue in South Carolina — as well as reimbursement pressures affecting anesthesia services and hospitals, and the importance of ensuring future CRNAs can access the education and training they need.
Looking ahead, Young said AANA must continue to serve as a “big tent” for the profession — bringing CRNAs together around a shared mission of advancing nurse anesthesiology and improving access to care for patients.
“I’m excited,” Young said. “I think there’s a lot of momentum in the nurse anesthesiology profession right now. … I feel we have a lot of momentum. I feel we have a solid base. I want to unify the profession under this big tent and keep us focused on the mission.”
